At the start of the year your coach tells you how many tournaments, and which ones in the fall and spring, before you register with Heartland: their dates are your conflict dates.
Before you apply
- Watch each tournament's deadlines and rules: every one is different.
- Enter your team name the club's way on every form: SPORTING BV Team Name YY/YY (for example, SPORTING BV Argentina 07/08).
- SBV and Heartland hold two tournaments at the SCHEELS Overland Park Soccer Complex: the Fall Kickoff Challenge in August and the Midwest Mother's Day Classic in May. All teams should apply for both.
Step by step
- Apply the way the tournament asks. Mind its deadlines and the paperwork and payments it needs.
- Book hotels early for out-of-town tournaments: the sooner, the closer to the fields.
- Travel permit for any tournament outside Kansas, including Missouri (Paragon and the KC Current facility count). Apply at the HTG Tournament Center with your team debit card ($20) and print it: it's needed at check-in.
- Guest players need a guest player form at the HTG Tournament Center too (free); print it.
- Organize your paperwork: medical release forms in alphabetical order, the official state roster in front (laminate the original and bring copies), and player cards in alphabetical order, guest players' included.
- Confirm the hotels. Most tournaments are Stay & Play: families must stay at the tournament's hotels. You set up the block and send families the link to book and pay. Tell them they cancel or change their own rooms, and that you've signed for a set number of rooms the team must fill.
